The Tattoo Situation

Hey ladies and gents, it's ya girl Untouched Jewel in the buildin. Tonight was a tad bit funny to me, because for something that I was trying to have covered ended up exposed. Now I'm sure you remembered when I got my tat for my 30th birthday, right? If not, I can refresh your memory.

Okay, so tonight I was in my grandmother's room and a commercial came on to where I started dancing, mainly being silly, and out of nowhere...here's how the conversation goes...

GRANDMA: Is that a tattoo you have?

ME: Huh?

GRANDMA: Turn around and let me see if that is a tattoo...

(turns around to let her see, nothing is visible)

GRANDMA: When did you get that tattoo? (in process of giving stern side eye action)

ME: I got that a long time ago

GRANDMA: Don't you do that again! Tattoo places are somewhere you need to be going. Only trashy people go to those kind of places, and I know you aren't trashy.

ME: Ok. But how are you gonna fuss at me when A***** (my little sister) has one on the back of her neck? How could you not clearly see that? (laughing at the same time)

See how black folk do me?I get something as a milestone to myself and get treated like Little Red Riding Hood (me) vs. The Big Bad Wolf (tattoo shops). Wow! Um, last time I checked I was 30 years old, and this is the first tattoo I have ever gotten in my entire life. Sure, I can somewhat understand where she's coming from in a religious or spiritual standpoint, but I'm not going around like a free range easel like some people who are addicted to the ink, and tat up any free space they have on their bodies. Damn!

I'm afraid it's a tad bit too late for the lecture, because it's almost been a year since I got it, and I don't feel the least bit guilty for getting it. It doesn't add nor take away from who I am and how I look...well unless I'm Mike Tyson or somethin...just playin. LOL.

Ladies and gents, all I say is do you always, but never let someone's opinion of how YOU look make you feel like you are as small as an ant as far as getting a tattoo. However, don't look like a side-show freak at the same time. In life there's a balance, and getting tatted should be no different. I understand the whole freedom of expression thing, I get that. But when does accepting a person and how they get down begin and criticism and judgment end? That's something we all should look into.

Until Next Post,
Peace & Blessings,
Untouched Jewel

ummm so listen here as a person who has 7 tats and I'm sure I will be getting more I don't give a rip about what people think about my ink. It's on my body not on theirs, and as the expression goes what I eat does not make you shit. If they don't like it don't look at it and tattoo shops are not all trashy. That's like saying all grandmothers are old biddies not everyone thing is the same way across the board there is always an exception to every rule. I think you should get more a big one right on your lower back that says kiss my A$$ lol.
