Still Hyped!

Hey ladies and gents, I know alot of you are still hyped about all that has taken place recently (especially all my brothas and sistas in every black community in the nation). I'm still somewhat in a state of shock that Barack Obama swept the presidency in a landslide victory.

For those of you who are white, we know that your vote for a Black president counted as well as the Latino and Black votes. But one thing you don't realize is that because of his presidency, it has given the African-American race a sense of hope and pride. We can now tell our children that they REALLY have a chance to become president someday. We can tell our children that they no longer have limitations placed on us and what we can accomplish as a people.

Ever since The Trans-Atlantic slave trade, our ancestors (who WERE slaves) were not supposed to even be considered citizens. Our people went from slaves to 3/5 of a person when counted in elections of presidents and census, then from there it took some time to be counted as citizens, then citizens who fought for the right to vote, then citizens who could vote. Then we became scholars, politicians, doctors, lawyers, athletes, professionals, and now.....PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. No one ever knew this day would take place, and now it has become not only a dream, but a reality.

I want to thank all of you who voted for Barack Obama. I thank all of you who registered and voted for the first time (young and old). I thank those who are registered and decided to make sure their voice was heard and their vote was counted. I thank God that he sent the one man that could change the face of history for all mankind living in this country.

When I first heard that Barack Obama was declared the winner, I didn't know how to react. I jumped, shouted, screamed to the top of my lungs. My grandmother told me to be quiet out of respect for the neighbors. I wasn't thinking about the neighbors, because a Black man won the election! LOL. I did all I could to keep from crying, because the joy I felt was beyond measure. The first thing I did was tell my children to mark this day in history, and when they have my future grandchildren, tell them the story of how Barack Obama became the first African-American president of this great country.

So, now that Obama has set the standard of being the "Dream and the Hope of the Slave", we as a people have to step up to that standard now. We no longer have an excuse of being how we are right now. If you are in a gang, an absentee mother or father, drug addict, or just plain ole trifling: STOP THE MADNESS! Step up and do better, be better. We need to show the rest of the world that we aren't an ignorant people. We need to show them that we are just as capable (if not more)to be a successful and articulate people. Like I have said before we are the trendsetters, inventors, innovators and creators of everything that you see in everyday life.

This is a prime example of what I'm talking about. It might be a lil lengthy, but the message is there.

Let's lead by example.
